What is a Special Report?
Simply put, a Special Report is a free section in the Legislative Gazette highlighting your organization. You will have complete editorial control over your section.
How much does a Special Report cost?
Nothing. The Legislative Gazette will sell advertising to support your section. For every page of advertising we sell, you will receive a free page of editorial.
Do I have to sell advertising?
Absolutely not. It is the responsibility of your Legislative Gazette representative to sell the advertising for your special Report. You will be asked to provide us with whatever mailing lists you feel comfortable (eg. Member list, Associate Member list, Vendor list, etc.) because you know your business better than we do. The list you provide to us will be handled by The Legislative Gazette staff with complete confidentiality and will be used only for your Special Report.
How is the editorial content generated?
Editorial content for your Special Report is the responsibility of your organization. This material can come from many different sources, including: original material generated specifically for your section; "canned" material you are already using; and articles generated by people to whom you reach out (such as your members). Additionally, if you need a professional writer to work under your direction, we can provide one to you at no cost.
How big will my Special Report be?
The size of your Special Report is based solely on the amount of advertising sold to support it. We base the size of all our publications on a 50/50 advertising to editorial ratio. Therefore, if we sell four pages of advertising, you will receive four pages for your editorial, giving you an eight page section.
How does my Special Report become a separate, pull-out section (pre-printed insert)?
Any Special Report that reaches the 16 page (advertising & editorial) level becomes a pre-printed product that is inserted into The Legislative Gazette. These pre-printed products are eligible for free four-color artwork on the 40 lb. cover, back page and inside cover. Any section that falls short of the 16 page threshold will be printed in the main body of The Legislative Gazette and is not eligible for free four-color processing.
How long does it take to generate a Special Report?
A special report can be generated in roughly nine weeks, from the date you provide us with mailing material to the publication date. The following is a rough outline of deadlines:
- Editorial Deadline - 2 1/2 weeks before publication date
- Advertising Deadline - 3 1/2 weeks before publication date
- Mailing to prospective advertisers - 4 weeks before advertising deadline
- Mailing material due to The Legislative Gazette - 9 weeks before publication date

Can I get extra copies of my Special Report?
You are eligible to receive up to 5,000 copies for your section free of charge (for amounts greater than 5,000, a nominal fee will be incurred). Keep in mind that if your section is in the main body of The Legislative Gazette, you will receive the entire paper.
