The second annual Animal Advocacy Day, sponsored by Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, R-Schenectady and Sen. Greg Ball, R-Patterson, was held Wednesday in Albany, featuring legislators, animal advocates, celebrities and their four-legged friends.

The advocates rallied in The Well of the Legislative Office Building, where Tedisco introduced his three-and-a-half year old Welsh Corgi, "Amazing" Grace and spoke of legislation he still hopes to see pushed through the remaining few days of session.

Other speakers included weatherman Steve Caporizzo of Pet Connection, a show on WTEN; Prince Lorenzo Borghese, of "The Bachelor" fame; Laura LaFrate, a Scotia native and runner up on the latest cycle of America's Next Top Model; and District Attorneys Bob Carney, Jim Murphy, David Soares and Kathleen Rice.

One of the promoted bills (A.697/S.7268), sponsored by Ball and Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, D-Scarsdale, is scheduled to pass the Senate today, after passing the assembly. The bill would establish new requirements for pet dealers regarding the health of animals.
